Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela, believed to be the largest religious gathering on earth is held every 12 years on the banks of the 'Sangam'- the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. The Mela alternates between Nasik, Allahabad, Ujjain and Haridwar every three years. The one celebrated at the Holy Sangam in Allahabad is the largest and holiest of them.
There were many highlights of this Kumbh Mela that will be remembered for a long time. More than 120 million (12 crore) people visited this event, which is the largest number in any Kumbh in Allahabad so far.
A tented township was set up for the pilgrims over an area of 2 hectares of land along the river. As many as five power substations, temporary police stations, hospitals and stalls were set up for providing various facilities to the visitors.

It is believed that a holy dip in sacred rivers during Kumbh mela takes sins as well as human out of the circle of life and death.

Kumbh Mela is considered to be the most sacred according to Indian Mythology. Kumbh Mela treated as an occasion where millions of Hindu Pilgrims, Naga Sadhus gather to take the holy dip in holy water to get rid of all their sins and get Moksha. It is estimated that Kumbh Mela in Allahabad 60 million people will take in sacred water and will be bigger than the previous gathering.
